Baby 5 star – Jamie Robb

BABY FIVE STAR ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Having finished work early Friday it was a race to try and beat the rush hour traffic around Manchester and Leeds. I managed to get to the park around 4pm, and decided to have a bike round with the intention of baiting for the following day. Callum aka Turkish turning up in the car park as i was getting on the bike so a duel ride carp hunt was the flavor of the afternoon/evening.
Having looked round the whole lake we baited a couple of likely looking areas up the shallows with one of those areas having consistently seen bait over the last few weekends with a mixture spicy hemp and 6 mm The Formula + Arctic Crab pellets and a good helping of matching boilie crumb.
Turkish headed off around 7 pm and i spend the rest of the evening looking and climbing trees down the mid section of the lake, when i saw an absolute monster bosh out in a free swim just up from where i was hanging. A quick bike ride back to the car and i had a rod with a baited rig and everything i needed to get one in safely back at the swim. The weed was starting to shift in the wind so it made casting out hard work. With a little window of opportunity to get a rig in to position and get the line sunk before the next weed berg was on the wipe out.
Sitting back with one rod around the area that the big un had showed i felt confident of a bite but only had around an hr left fishing, i decided to wind in 15 minuets before time to get some squid test bait out with the stick for the following morning, before heading off to get some supplies and get my head down at the camp site.
The plan was for the following morning to fish that area that i had baited and if nothing had happened to move up to the shallow areas where we had baited come lunch time. With Turkish spending the morning looking, i got two rods on the area id baited the evening before but seen nothing. At around 10am Callum came into the swim i was fishing saying there was fish feeding up on the shallow areas we had baited the day before, a quick move was planned with me packing up and Turkish getting his gear out of the car we headed up the shallows in hope that we could get some rods into position before someone else had spotted them.
We where soon casting a rod each just off where the fish where feeding in the shallow water, a hardened chopped down coated enhanced hooker with a small bag of crab pellets was my choice of trap as we sat back with the kettle on full of anticipation. With Turkish not catching one out of the lake yet i thought it was going to be his day, a couple of hours had passed and i decided to have a walk up the bank to see if anything was feeding near the rods when i heard a shout! YOUR IN!!!.
Having jumped back into the waders i waded out to meet Callum holding my rod covered in weed, i removed most of the weed before taking the rod off him and getting a healthy test curve back, it felt a big fish, slow and heavy lunges in the shallow water. Gaining line consistently as the carp moved closer, Turkish ran back to the bank for the net. Being low in the water i could not see to far in front as the fish came closer, i heard a guy say at the top of the bank look at the size of that fish this guy has on his rod. With the fish nearly ready for netting i turned round looking for Callum and out of know where he came bundling into the water with the net scooping the long mirror up first time in a blink of an eye. We had done it!! one of the better mirrors was in the net, quickly turning the net folds to look at my prize, i was greeted by the queen of the pond. YES!
Mumbling its bbbbbbbbaby to Cal as he giggled holding the net, i let out the big GET IN THERE!!! with a raised arm of victory. Getting some funny looks off the public as we waded the sort distance with the fish back to the swim. I was blown away by her length. After clipping the rig off i lifted her out on to the wet matt to unhook and weigh her safely, she went 42 lb 13oz, a new PB mirror and a fish that had been one of my targets for a number of years. Lifting the fish out for one final time to capture the moment with the lads before putting her back to her weedy home. A big thanks to the boys that helped that day, I could not have done it without you.
