My 5 top tips for tackling overnighters in autumn – Lee Griffin

Fishing limited time anytime of year can be a real disadvantage but with the effort you put in the rewards will follow. These are my 5 top tips for autumn overnighters that I hope will put a few extra carp on the bank for you this autumn!

1: Preparation.

Having the head torch and bivvy lights charged ready to go, with a few rigs tied in advance will save time and scrambling around in the dark. Making sure you pack some warm clothes will keep you comfortable.

2: Location.
Upon arrival it’s key to not just head into a going swim or one that’s closest to the car just because the light is fading. Having a good walk round and listening out for the carps whereabouts is THE MOST important thing (this goes for anytime of year). You can’t catch if there not there.

3: Weather.
Looking out for the milder south westerly winds and the low pressure systems that roll in and planing a session when they do.

4: Hookbaits.
I use pastel colours all year round but going a match the hatch approach can pick up extra bites from wary carp that have seen it all.

5: Silt.
Fishing siltier areas can be a real edge this time of year but avoiding the stinky stuff is still key. Full of natural food like bloodworm that the carp will be seeking out before winter.

Be Lucky,
Lee
